Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Electromagnetic Fields at the University of Cagliari (DIEE). Research on 2D materials, van der Waals heterostructures and twistronics for photonic, optoelectronic and THz devices.

Nicola Curreli is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Electromagnetic Fields (IINF-02/A) at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Cagliari, and an affiliated researcher at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT). He received his M.Sc. from the University of Genoa (2016) and his Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Cagliari (2020), and has worked at IIT, Columbia University and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

He was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow (project 2DTWIST, 2023–2026) on the electrostatic actuation of twisted 2D heterostructures. His research focuses on the physics and engineering of low-dimensional materials and their optical and electronic characterization, with applications in nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, broadband photodetection from the ultraviolet to the terahertz range, and electromagnetic devices.

He received the URSI Young Scientist Award (2022), has authored more than 35 publications in international journals, and serves on the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports.
